October is National Depression Awareness Month in the United States, with National Depression Screening Day falling on October 8 and World Mental Health Day occurring on October 10, 2024. The purpose of this observance is to bring awareness to this mental health disorder and encourage people to seek out screening and treatment. Depression can occur alone, but often, it may co-occur with other psychiatric conditions, such as eating disorders. This is known as a dual diagnosis and requires specialized and integrated care.
How to Support Mental Health Awareness 1. Educate Yourself and Others – Understanding mental health is the first step toward reducing stigma. Share data-based information about depression and the importance of mental health screenings with friends, family, and your community. 2. Encourage Open Conversations – Create a brave space for discussions about mental health. Encourage loved ones to express their feelings and concerns without fear of judgment. 3. Promote Available Resources – Share credible resources that provide support for mental health. Ensure that individuals know where to find help when they need it. 4. Advocate for Mental Health – Support initiatives that promote mental health awareness in your community. Participate in local events, campaigns, or online discussions to destigmatize the impacts of mental health. 5. Practice Self-Care – Taking care of your own mental health is essential. Engage in activities that promote well-being, such as exercise, mindfulness, and connecting with others. The impact of mental health awareness is a year-round commitment to fostering understanding, compassion, and action. Remember, mental health is just as important as physical health, and everyone deserves access to the support they need to thrive. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by mental health issues and create a safer, more supportive environment to everyone.

I couldn't put it down. The trauma was so real. I continued reading in hopes of getting to the healing. Thankfully, each chapter offered advice. I liked how the author referenced mental illness references and tips at the end of each chapter. Although it was hard to read her experience, at times, I appreciated the transparency. Wow! I thank God you are able to share your story. You will continually help many. Thank you.

I read this book in 24 hours, I couldn't put it down because I wanted to see what the outcome would be and if there would be any help for this family. Mental Health is definitely a reality. Thank you Cynthia Howell for sharing your story.
The book was a great read. I liked the transparency and how she put facts at the end of each chapter. I thought it was insightful. You felt what the author was going through. Got a few chuckles out of some of the language she used. So down to earth and real. In my family there is mental illness, and it gave me some insight to the issue. Even her own story in the last few chapters was transparent. She doesn't look like what she been through. God had a purpose for her life, and she walked into her purpose.
"Crazy Didn't Get Me: Preparation For My Destiny". Such an awesome book. Once I started reading I could hardly put it down. The author has presented her information so interestingly, clearly, and succinctly, it makes you feel as if she is right Infront of you telling her history .This is a 'MUST READ' for everyone. I love how the author holds her readers' interest throughout the book and how she gave mental health 'fact-findings' at the end of each chapter.
I purchased this book as support for mental health awareness since I am dealing with someone suffering with mental health issues in my family. I'm not much of a book reader, actually I hate to read. I decided that I would read at least one chapter a day. So I started my chapter and didn't put the book down until I had finished it. It was just AWSOME!!!
It was like the author was sitting with you and telling you her story. Amazing how she came out of such darkness and turned it to light. shining a spotlight on mental illness….

Pay attention to unusual behaviors. Here are just a few signs:
When you observe the symptoms, don't deny what you are seeing. It's REAL! Operating in denial is only going to prolong the process and waste precious time that you do not have.
Act quickly in seeking professional treatment! The sooner treatment begins, the better the chance of living an ordinary, productive and fulfilling life.
